What’s a tweak?
A tweak is a change that can usually be made with little effort, but will have a huge impact on your business’ bottom line and/or your users’ needs. Often major problems can be solved simply by making a few strategic tweaks to an existing interface.
Where do the users come from?
Users are recruited from various community websites depending on the project or subject matter. Example sites include Craigslist, Amazon’s Mechanical Turks, Twitter, Usertesting.com, and our own database of users.
Is Smart Tweaks a replacement for traditional usability?
No. If you have the time, money, and resources to conduct traditional usability, in many cases, you should. But most companies don’t have that luxury. They need answers now. Smart Tweaks is designed to rapidly provide insight into what needs to be changed now to meet your goals. For most projects Smart Tweaks provides the most value for the effort and costs involved. Plus, Smart Tweaks is affordable and fast enough that you can incorporate usability testing into your development cycles more easily, which is not the case for traditional usability.
Do you tweak open source or “white label” solutions?
Yes. Often vendors that sell white label solutions are more than willing to tweak thier default interfaces to suit your business needs — as long as you tell them exactly what you want changed. Smart Tweaks can help you identify what needs to be tweaked to ensure that these white label solutions actually produce the results you want.

Can I use my own users?
Of course, but it really depends on the project. We want you to get a lot of value from our service and recruiting the right users is very important in getting good results. Talk to us about what you are thinking and we will advise.
How many users should I test?
We won’t do a test with less than 5 users. Testing with 5 users can uncover 70% of the issues with your design and testing with 10 users can uncover 90%. We suggest that all our clients test with 10 users to get the best results for the money.
How quickly can you get started on my project?
We can usually start within a week of you contacting us, but it depends on the number of projects we are currently working on.
If I hire you for the day, what kinds of things can you do for me besides the Smart Tweaks service?
We can help you brainstorm an idea, wireframe a design solution, conduct a quick user test of a design, look over a design before it launches. Basically if you have an interface issue that you want solved, we can help. And if we can’t help, we’ll gladly point you in the right direction to find someone who can help.
How do I pay?
The 50% deposit is usually paid by Paypal, Google Checkout, credit card, or company check. Full payment is required before final delivery of your report. Repeat customers or customers who put us on retainer can be invoiced with payment expected within 30 days.
